A Departure and an Arrival
On behalf of DAPA and the whole CIAT team I would like to wish Katie Ricketts luck at Cornell as she continues her studies! She was a dynamic addition to the Markets program. We hope to have continuing input on our blog from Katie over the next few months once she settles into her studies.
As one of the new Visiting Researchers, I would like to introduce myself, Ashley Friedman. I will be researching at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture, (CIAT), in Cali, Colombia. I recently graduated from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island with B.A. in Development Studies. My undergraduate thesis focused on the opportunities and constraints facing solar energy as a means to eliminate energy poverty and drive social development in rural areas of Chile and Colombia. At CIAT, I will be working with the Linking Farmers to Markets program within DAPA with a special interest in how technologies can enhance value chains and catalyze economic and social development for smallholders. I hope to gain experience working directly with farmers and researching practical, effective solutions to market inefficiencies and inequalities.
