Decision and Policy Analysis Research Area – DAPA

Glenn Hyman

Glenn Hyman is a geographer in CIAT's Decision and Policy Analysis program (DAPA) specializing in the geographic and natural resources dimensions of agriculture. His regional interests include Central America, the Andes and the Amazon. He holds a Masters degree in geography from Appalachian State University, where he focused on watershed dynamics and physical geography. Dr. Hyman received his doctorate in geography from the University of Tennessee, where he studied geomorphology and geographic information science. As a Fulbright scholar in Costa Rica, his doctoral thesis focused on sediment movement and land surface processes in the 652 km2 Río Pacuare watershed. His work also involved the development and use of national level databases of Costa Rica related to environment and agriculture. Glenn developed continental GIS databases of crops and population as a postdoctoral fellow at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT). His current research involves matching agricultural technologies to their social and environmental niches and the land-use dimensions of programs to reduce emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD+).
