Cassava Brown Streak Disease maps for East Africa
Nov 19th, 2011 | By Glenn Hyman | Category: Crops, DataThere are a number of news stories coming out about a major cassava brown streak disease problem in East Africa. Our data paints quite a worrying outlook. These are the known and predicted distributions of cassava brown streak disease (CBSD). The known distribution is from the scientific literature. Ecological niche models were developed to predict suitability for CBSD. This should be viewed as the potential hotspots, but we do warn that this predicted distribution is rather limited. Given the damage CBSD is causing, we should anticipate that this disease could spread much further, potentially troubling for Latin America and Asia if it makes it off the African continent.
