Crop Wild Relatives Seed Collection on Target

On the 10th of December, the Global Crop Diversity Trust announced that Norway pledged US 50 million for the conservation of wild genepools of major crops. Take a look at Cary Fowler’s (Executive Director of the Trust) talk on the TED Global Conference, clever and encouraging:

CIAT and DAPA are closely linked with this initiative, not only due to the fact CIAT holds major collections of beans and cassava, but also due to the research undertaken in the recent years, partnered with the Trust and other CGIAR centres, and that has led to the organisation, cleansing and assessment of genebank databases, and to the development of methodologies that intend to guide and optimise the conservation of plant genetic resources, and at the same time increase our understanding of genetic diversity.
