DAPA researchers attended geographers meeting
CIAT-DAPA staff attended the 2010 annual meeting of the Association of American Geographers in Washington DC from April 14-18 to present their Amazon research. Ernesto Giron made a presentation about the Amazon Initiative map viewer — an online map server that allows visitors to view geographic data and assess deforestation rates and opportunity costs of avoided deforestation. Elizabeth Barona presented the results of her master’s research at McGill University on the contribution of soybean cultivation and pastures to recent deforestation in Brazil (see previous post for more information). Glenn Hyman participated in an illustrated paper session (poster) on the role of roads in deforestation of the Peruvian Amazon.
