Food security in the Amazon

Last week we were in the field visiting communities that are going to work with us in the ESPA program‘s ASSETS project, and it was a tremendous experience.  So much so, I was inspired to shoot a video and talk a little about the project.  Check it out.

As a side, one day we were treated to fish for lunch with the community in Puebo Libre.  It is shocking to discover that the price of fish over the past few years has increased six-fold in the region!  This is a strong indication of a reduction in supply as over-fishing in the rivers is causing a collapse of populations.  Confronted with these challenges, many in Pueblo Libre have generated artifical ponds and are practicing aquaculture.  And this is how they fish!
