Fostering innovative approaches to conserving ecosystems and bio-diversity
CIAT, through the CPWF-project on mechanisms for sharing the benefits derived from ecosystem services, will co-sponsor and participate in an upcoming workshop: Financing Mechanisms for the Conservation of Ecosystems and Bio-Diversity, from 29-30 September in Lima, Peru.
The purpose of the event is to provide insight into the different economic or financial mechanisms available in the area of environmental management and conservation. The Ministry of Environment of Peru will convene the course, while GTZ, CIAT and NGOs such as- Conservation International (CI) and CARE International will support the course as sponsors and partners.
Ecosystem services specialist Marcela Quintero will speak on innovative mechanisms for funding ecosystem services conservation/provision, while Jeimar Tapasco will illustrate the function of traditional financing mechanisms through the exploration of case studies.
Participants will include Colombian Regional and National Government officials, university staff and representatives from a range of NGOs including the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and The Nature Conservancy (TNC). Additionally in attendance will be a number of representatives from conservation funds, such as the Fund for the Promotion of Protected Natural Areas (PROFONANPE), the Peruvian National Environment Fund (FONAM) and financial institutions such as the Fund of the Americas (FONDAM), and the World Bank-Peru.
The workshop will run 8:30 am to 6:00 pm Wednesday (29) and Thursday (30) September at the Hotel Plaza del Bosque (Avenida Paz Soldán 190, San Isidro, Lima). Places are limited and registration is via email. Registration will be provided to those with most relevant experience and interest in the area of bio-diversity and ecosystems.
