Decision and Policy Analysis Research Area – DAPA

Job Opportunity — Policy Analyst Researcher at CIAT

CIAT is seeking a public policy analyst with experience in assessing and evaluating different public and donor strategies and policies in terms of their contribution to effective poverty reduction for small holder farmers to fill a position as a Researcher at CIAT’s headquarters in Cali, Colombia.

This position forms part of the Linking Farmers Markets research line in the Decision and Policy Analysis (DAPA) program at CIAT.  The Linking Farmers to Markets research agenda currently includes the following topics: (a) development of methods and tools to augment the capacity of farmer organizations to function as effective business partners; (b) development of pro-poor business practices with purchasing agents; (c) the establishment of an effective donor and public-sector enabling environment to facilitate better market linkages: and, (d) the establishment of sustained new business models between small producers and buyers that lead to rural poverty reduction.

The specific focus on this position will be on assessing the relative poverty reduction impact of public sector supply-chain policies in Colombia and comparing these with specific donor interventions targeted at reducing rural poverty through improved market linkages.  As such, the successful candidate must be able to work with a range of public and private partners active in key smallholder supply chains in Colombia.  In addition, active participation in the further development of this line of research at CIAT and within the context of the emerging CGIAR global research program on Policies, Institutions and Markets is expected.
