Recently developmentSEED processed SRTM 90m Digital Elevation Data from CGIAR into a 600GB Amazon EBS to make this data easier accessible. This dataset were provided by CIAT-CSI (Jarvis A., H.I. Reuter, A. Nelson, E. Guevara, 2008, Hole-filled seamless SRTM data V4, International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT)), to follow their policy of sharing their investigation work to a brought public usage.
In contrast of having all this data available just on a traditional web-server for instant download, having it on EBS volume means that data extracted by a specific area mask, can be achieved by creating an EBS volume in seconds and attaching it to a cloud computer for further processing and rendering usage.
Elevation data originally from NASA’s Shuttle Radar Topography Mission where processed and improved within the last years by detecting and filling absent information because of radar scatter by mathematical approximation to make the dataset far more usable for visualization and analysis.
